Theoretical Explorer Series Overview Continued

  • As previously stated, the Thorndon Depression  Explorer was developed from a clinical perspective. The intent was to help clients explore and understand their depressive symptomology from their own subjective experience. The aim was not to produce:

i)  an 'objective', clinician driven perspective;
II)  a resu lt proportIng  to represent  'technical  fact',
            as emotionally 'clean' as possible;
     III)  questions based on the DSM-TRVI,
     IV)  a questionnaire  that had  either  internal  or external
   'validity'.

  • The intent was to help clients explore and understand   depressive symptomology from their own subjective experience. Hence. the wording of the questions arose from the type of statements clients themselves would make as to how they felt or what intrusive negative thoughts came into their minds. The use of this wording was intended to evoke a subjective feeling-based response in the clients.
